Job summary

Paxton Personnel Ltd. seeks a Civils Estimator for a permanent role in the Scottish Highlands.

The successful candidate will prepare detailed cost estimates and tenders for civil projects, review drawings and tender documentation, carry out quantity take-offs and obtain subcontractor quotes, pricing labour, plant and materials. You will identify risks and opportunities, support tender programmes, and liaise with engineering and commercial teams.

Qualifications

• Experience as Estimator in civil engineering, construction or related field.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
• Strong understanding of civil engineering costs and tender processes.
• Full UK driving licence.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Civils Estimator to join an established contractor working on projects across the Scottish Highlands.

This is a permanent opportunity for an Estimator with a strong civil engineering or construction background to play a key role in the preparation of competitive tenders and cost estimates for a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tenders for civil engineering projects
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Carry out quantity take-offs and produce accurate costings
• Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers
• Price labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages
• Identify potential risks and opportunities within tender submissions
• Assist with tender programmes and construction methodology
• Liaise with operational, commercial and engineering teams during the tender process
• Attend tender meetings, site visits and pre-contract discussions where required
• Maintain accurate estimating records and cost information
• Support handover of successful tenders to the project delivery team
• Ensure submissions are completed accurately and within tender deadlines

About You

We are interested in speaking with candidates who have previous estimating experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or construction.

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience as an Estimator within the construction or civil engineering sector
• Strong understanding of civil engineering methods and costs
• Experience preparing tenders and detailed estimates
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and bills of quantities
• Good knowledge of labour, plant and material costs
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• Good commercial awareness
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Excel
• Relevant construction, civil engineering or quantity surveying qualification would be advantageous
• Full UK driving licence

The Opportunity

This is a permanent position with an established contractor offering ongoing work across the Scottish Highlands.

The role would suit an experienced Civils Estimator looking for a long-term opportunity, as well as someone with strong commercial or quantity surveying experience looking to develop further within estimating.
