Job description

Registered Manager Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and child-focused Registered Manager to lead an established two-bed children's residential home in Loughborough.

The home supports two young people with learning disabilities and associated needs. Both young people are currently in placement, and the successful candidate will join a stable service with a full staff team and Responsible Individual already in place.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Registered Manager or an accomplished Deputy Manager who is ready to progress into registration.

For the right candidate, there may also be an opportunity to become dual registered and manage an additional children's home in the future.

Registered Manager Responsibilities

As the Registered Manager, you will:

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the children's home.

  • Provide strong, visible and child-centred leadership.

  • Ensure both young people receive safe, consistent and high-quality care.

  • Lead the home in accordance with its Statement of Purpose.

  • Maintain compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements.

  • Promote the welfare, independence, development and positive outcomes of each young person.

  • Ensure care plans, placement plans, risk assessments and behaviour-support plans are accurate and consistently followed.

  • Ensure the views, wishes and feelings of the young people influence the care they receive.

  • Maintain effective safeguarding and child-protection practices.

  • Lead, supervise, motivate and develop the residential staff team.

  • Manage staff performance, supervision, appraisal, training and development.

  • Maintain safe staffing levels and effective rotas.

  • Work closely with the Responsible Individual, social workers, families, education providers, placing authorities and other professionals.

  • Oversee medication, healthcare arrangements and appointments.

  • Complete audits and maintain accurate regulatory records.

  • Ensure notifications, reports and reviews are completed within the required timescales.

  • Manage the home's budget and resources effectively.

  • Lead preparations for Ofsted inspections.

  • Develop and implement service-improvement plans.

  • Promote a positive, reflective and accountable culture.

  • Contribute to the organisation's growth and potential future dual registration.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this Registered Manager position, you should have:

  • Significant experience working within an Ofsted-regulated children's residential home.

  • Previous experience as a Registered Manager, Deputy Manager or senior residential childcare leader.

  • Experience supporting children or young people with learning disabilities and associated complex needs.

  • Strong knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements.

  • A comprehensive understanding of safeguarding, child protection and safer working practices.

  • Experience leading, supervising and developing residential childcare staff.

  • Strong organisational, communication and decision-making skills.

  • Experience monitoring care quality and implementing service improvements.

  • The ability to build effective relationships with young people, families, placing authorities and external professionals.

  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Qualifications
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or a recognised equivalent.

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or an accepted equivalent.

Applicants currently completing the Level 5 qualification may be considered if they have suitable management experience and can meet the required regulatory timescale.

Desirable Experience
  • Previous successful Ofsted registration as a children's home manager.

  • Experience achieving or maintaining a Good or Outstanding Ofsted judgement.

  • Experience managing a learning-disability or autism-specific children's service.

  • Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support and trauma-informed practice.

  • Experience supporting the opening or development of a children's home.

  • Experience managing more than one residential service.

What We Offer
  • Salary of £55,000–£70,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

  • An established two-bed home with two young people currently in placement.

  • A full staff team already in place.

  • Support from an experienced Responsible Individual.

  • Ongoing training and professional development.

  • Support with relevant leadership qualifications, where appropriate.

  • Potential opportunity to become dual registered in the future.

  • Career progression within a developing organisation.

  • Company pension.

  • Additional benefits in accordance with company policy.

Working Pattern

This is a full-time position, primarily working Monday to Friday. Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the home, including participation in the on‑call rota and occasional evening, weekend or bank‑holiday working.
