Job summary

Vetro Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Support Worker in Bideford, North Devon, to join a residential childcare setting. You will build trusting relationships, support education and daily living activities, and help ensure a safe, nurturing environment for children and young people.

The role requires an NVQ Level 3 in CYP or equivalent, prior residential childcare experience, an Enhanced DBS check, and a full UK driving licence. Salary is competitive with regular pay reviews.

Job Description:

Our client, a leading childcare provider, is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to join their team in Bideford, North Devon. Based within a residential home on the historic port and market town of Bideford, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people. As a Support Worker, you will be part of a compassionate team committed to delivering high-quality, personalised care in a safe and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establishing positive, trusting relationships with children and young people to promote their social, emotional, and physical well-being.
  • Supporting children with their education, vocational interests, and social networks, ensuring they feel safe and valued.
  • Providing consistent boundaries and behaviour management, including supervising online activity and implementing agreed sanctions when necessary.
  • Assisting with daily domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe, clean environment.
  • Managing healthcare needs, including attending medical appointments and maintaining accurate records.
  • Participating in care planning, reviews, and team meetings to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.
  • Ensuring the physical security of the home, including managing shift keys and locking doors/windows when unoccupied.
  • Supporting the admission, discharge, and transition processes for young people entering or leaving the home.
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • An NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience working in a residential childcare setting or similar environment.
  • Mandatory compliance with an Enhanced DBS Check and a Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and a compassionate approach to care.
