Job summary

Balfor Recruitment is partnered with a well-established children’s residential service in Birmingham seeking a Registered Manager to lead day-to-day operations and drive high-quality care for children and young people with EBD and LD. You will be responsible for safeguarding, compliance, staff leadership, and service development.

The role requires a strong background in children’s homes regulations, a Level 5 leadership qualification, and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years’ managerial experience within children’s residential services.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices.
• Understanding of children’s home regulations and quality standards.
• Experience of inspections and regulatory frameworks.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Flexible approach to working hours and patterns.

Balfor Recruitment is delighted to partner with a well-established and supportive three-bedroom residential home that cares for children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties and Learning Disabilities.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Children’s Residential Registered Manager or a Deputy looking for a step up, to lead and develop a high-quality children’s home. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional who is committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where young people can thrive, achieve positive outcomes, and enjoy fulfilling lives.

As the Registered Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring the highest standards of care, compliance, and leadership. You will play a key role in shaping the service from the ground up, including preparing for registration and inspection.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the setup and preparation of the home to ensure readiness for registration and inspection.
• Ensure the home meets and exceeds all regulatory standards and quality frameworks.
• Work closely with senior leadership to recruit, onboard, and develop a skilled staff team.
• Provide strong leadership, direction, and management across all aspects of the service.
• Promote safeguarding, child protection, and the rights of young people at all times.
• Deliver high-quality, person-centred care that achieves positive outcomes.
• Assess and review the needs of children, developing tailored care and placement plans.
• Manage staff performance through supervision, appraisals, and ongoing development.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, reports, and documentation.
• Conduct and oversee risk assessments for all activities and operational duties.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and high standards.
• Monitor staff practices including daily routines, health, hygiene, and housekeeping.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, families, and the wider community.
• Participate in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours management support.
• Oversee all operational aspects including safeguarding, compliance, communication, and quality assurance.
• Minimum of 2 years’ managerial experience within children’s residential services.

• Understanding of children’s home regulations and quality standards.
• Experience of inspections and regulatory frameworks.
• Willingness to work towards (or already hold) Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of attachment theory within children’s homes.
• Experience managing budgets.
• Understanding of referral processes.
• Flexible approach to working hours and patterns.
