We are seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to lead Royal Mail Pensions Trustees Limited (RMPTL) through its next phase of strategic evolution.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a high-profile organisation at the heart of one of the UK's most important pension arrangements. Working at Board level and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, you will help shape the future direction of the Plan, influence key strategic decisions and ensure the continued delivery of outstanding outcomes for members.

The Role

Reporting to the Chair of Trustees and the Royal Mail Group Chief Financial Officer, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for Royal Mail Pensions Trustees Limited.

You will lead the Trustee Executive team, working closely with the Trustee Board to develop and implement the long-term strategy of the Plan whilst ensuring the highest standards of governance, risk management and operational excellence.

As the lead in-house pensions expert, you will provide trusted advice and guidance across a broad range of strategic, technical and operational matters, balancing long-term vision with effective day-to-day delivery.

This role sits at the intersection of pensions, governance, investment, regulation and stakeholder management, requiring a leader who can navigate complexity whilst building alignment and delivering results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategic direction and ongoing development of the Royal Mail Pension Plan.
  • Support the Trustee Board in the delivery of its long-term objectives and annual priorities.
  • Drive the successful implementation of major strategic and transformation initiatives.
  • Provide leadership across governance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee key relationships with investment managers, actuaries, consultants, auditors and legal advisers.
  • Build productive relationships with Royal Mail Group, Trustee Directors, regulators, government bodies, trade unions and other external stakeholders.

Ensure the effective operation of the Trustee Executive function and the successful delivery of member services.

About You

We are looking for an accomplished and influential leader with the credibility, judgement and strategic capability to operate at the very highest level.

You will bring:

  • Significant experience leading, managing or advising a large and complex pension fund.
  • Board-level leadership experience within a complex and highly regulated environment.
  • Strong governance, risk management and regulatory expertise.
  • Experience of leading large-scale transformation and change programmes.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Strong commercial awareness and political acumen.
  • The ability to influence, challenge and engage senior stakeholders with confidence and credibility.
  • A professional qualification such as Chartered Accountant, Actuary, Pension Management Institute qualification or equivalent.
Why Join Us?

This is a unique opportunity to lead an organisation of genuine national significance and play a key role in shaping the future of one of the UK's most prominent pension schemes.

You will work alongside an experienced Trustee Board and Executive team, influencing decisions that impact thousands of members whilst helping to drive the next phase of the Plan's development.

The role offers the opportunity to make a lasting contribution through strategic leadership, innovation and collaboration at the highest level.

Location
