Job summary

SSE plc seeks a Group Head of Data to set the enterprise data strategy and governance framework. You will drive data governance, architecture and platforms, enabling data as a strategic asset across SSE and its business units.

You'll lead a data profession, shape enterprise data capabilities and collaborate with CIOs and BI leaders to ensure safe, scalable data foundations for analytics and AI-driven growth.

Qualifications

• Extensive senior leadership experience across data and related technology disciplines in large organisations.
• Proven experience leading data strategy, governance and management with operating capabilities for ownership, stewardship, metadata and data quality.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise data architecture, cloud platforms, APIs, data products and DataOps.
• Experience building or reshaping enterprise data functions, platforms and professional capability.
• Ability to advise senior leaders and challenge complex data, technology and risk choices.
• Sound commercial, financial and regulatory judgement with cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own and execute SSE’s group-wide data strategy, operating model and investment direction across the enterprise.
• Establish enterprise data governance and management capabilities with ownership, metadata and quality controls.
• Define standards for data architecture, modelling, engineering, integration and APIs.
• Provide trusted data foundations and guardrails enabling reporting, analytics and AI solutions.
• Lead and develop SSE’s data profession and career pathways across units.
• Collaborate with CIOs and senior leaders to address cross-SSE dependencies and drive value.
