Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Group Head of AI to design and lead an enterprise AI capability that safely scales AI across the organisation. You will drive strategy, platforms, governance, and cross‑SSE collaboration to turn AI opportunities into production‑grade solutions that improve resilience, decision making and performance.

You will partner with data, architecture, security and business units to ensure responsible AI adoption, investment alignment and measurable value delivery.

Qualifications

• Significant senior technology leadership experience in a large, complex and regulated organisation.
• Extensive practical experience designing, engineering, deploying and operating AI‑enabled software and platforms in production.
• Strong command of modern AI architecture and lifecycle engineering (generative/agentic AI, MLOps, LLMOps, observability).
• Experience with responsible AI, risk, controls, privacy and regulatory evidence.

Responsibilities

• Own and execute SSE’s group‑wide AI strategy and enterprise operating model.
• Establish secure, resilient AI platforms and reusable services for rapid production use.
• Create and operate SSE’s AI governance, lifecycle and controls framework.
• Lead pathways from discovery to production, enabling business units to own products and value.
• Collaborate with Group Head of Data and Group Head of Architecture to align data with enterprise strategy.
• Shape future AI choices across models, infrastructure and partnerships.
• Build a high‑performing enterprise AI function with inclusive pathways and practical support.
