Job summary

The University of Salford is seeking a Technician (Chemical Sciences) to join the technical team supporting laboratory teaching and project activity at the university. This is a hands-on role for someone with practical experience in chemical, analytical, environmental or general wet chemistry laboratories.

Based primarily in Cockcroft laboratories, you will have a core Chemical Sciences workload while collaborating with academics, technicians and students across HCLS and SEE to support teaching

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in chemical, analytical, environmental or wet chemistry laboratories.
• Grounding in Chemical Sciences including handling and storage, preparation of reagents and solutions, laboratory equipment and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare chemicals, reagents, solutions, materials and equipment for practical teaching and project activities.
• Prepare allocated laboratory activities, ensuring materials and equipment are ready and suitable.
• Operate and maintain general laboratory equipment, carrying out routine checks and troubleshooting faults where appropriate.
• Support safe laboratory operation, including chemical handling and storage, waste management and relevant laboratory documentation.
• Work collaboratively with academics, technicians, students and other laboratory users, supporting activity across the wider technical service when required.
