Job summary

University of Salford is seeking a Technician (Chemical Sciences) to join our technical team supporting laboratory teaching and project activity. Based primarily in Cockcroft laboratories, the role focuses on practical chemical sciences work, including handling reagents, storage, and equipment preparation for teaching and projects.

The post is fixed-term until 31 May 2027, with a core Chemical Sciences workload and collaboration across the wider technical service.

Qualifications

• Hands-on role requiring practical experience in chemical, analytical, environmental or general wet chemistry laboratories.
• Good grounding in Chemical Sciences, including chemical handling and storage, preparation of reagents and solutions, laboratory equipment and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare chemicals, reagents, solutions, materials and equipment for practical teaching and project activities.
• Prepare allocated laboratory activities, ensuring materials and equipment are ready and suitable for use.
• Operate and maintain general laboratory equipment, carrying out routine checks and troubleshooting faults where appropriate.
• Support safe laboratory operation, including chemical handling and storage, waste management and relevant laboratory documentation.
• Work collaboratively with academics, technicians, students and other laboratory users, supporting activity across the wider technical service when required.
