Job summary

Aramark UK at Vimy Barracks, Catterick Garrison, is recruiting a Chef Assistant to support chefs with food preparation and everyday cooking, including sandwiches and grab-and-go items. You will follow recipes, portion control, and presentation guidelines to ensure high-quality meals.

The role requires knowledge of HACCP and food safety, the ability to work under pressure, and strong teamwork and communication. This permanent, full-time position is 35 hours per week, with some weekends.

Overview

Chef Assistant - Bring Your Passion to the Plate!

Location: Vimy Barracks, Catterick Garrison, DL9 3PS

Pay: £12.71 per hour (£23,211.38 per annum)

Contract type: Permanent, full-time, 35 hours per week, 5 days over 7 (includes some weekends)

Shift times: 0530 - 1300 or 1100 - 1830

What you'll do

• Assist chefs with food prep and cooking (sandwiches, grab-and-go items, basic hot meals) to a high standard.
• Follow recipes, portion control, and presentation guidelines.
• Ensure consistency and quality across all meals.
• Adapt dishes to meet dietary requirements and allergens.

What we're looking for

• UK residency for the past 3 years & ability to pass security vetting and DBS checks.
• Strong knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques
• Understanding of food hygiene and safety standards (e.g. HACCP)
• Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively
• Attention to detail and pride in food presentation
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
