Job summary

St Catharine's College in Cambridge is seeking a full-time Pastry Chef de Partie to join our bustling Catering team, delivering high-quality desserts and patisserie for college meals, conferences and events. The role works under the Kitchen Manager and includes training to develop professional pastry skills.

Hours are 40 per week on a shift pattern including evenings and weekends, with a salary of £31,000–£34,000 per annum. We value teamwork, food hygiene and high-quality presentation.

Qualifications

  • Experience in hotel, restaurant or contract catering.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to produce meals.
  • Pastry experience with desserts and sweet goods.
  • Stock rotation and proper storage of food.
  • Adherence to food hygiene and health & safety policies.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a team member cooking and presenting high quality, nutritious food according to menu and recipe specifications.
  • Prepare a wide variety of foods as requested by senior chefs.
  • Assist with stock rotation, labeling and dating of foodstuffs.
  • Carry out duties in line with the College Food Hygiene Policy and Health & Safety legislation.

Based in the heart of Cambridge, St Catharine's College is looking to appoint a full time, permanent Pastry Chef de Partie to join our busy, friendly Catering team, providing a first class service for our college community. The successful candidate will assist the Kitchen Manager in providing high quality meals to our community and conferencing customers, in compliance with Food and Safety Regulations and College polices.

This role is varied, offering a broad range of cooking opportunities from every day College meals for students and conference guests through to fine dining for more formal events. Full training is available to support the successful candidate's professional development.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Have breadth of experience, skills and achievements gained from working within a hotel, restaurant or contract catering environment.
  • Have the ability to work as a team member cooking and presenting the required quantity of high quality and nutritious food according to menu and recipe specifications.
  • Need previous pastry experience and must be able to prepare a wide variety of delicious desserts, pastries, and sweet goods.
  • Be successful in assisting with stock rotation of all foodstuffs. To label, date and properly store all foodstuffs in appropriate storage areas.
  • Carry out duties in adherence to the College Food Hygiene Policy, and current Food Hygiene and Health and Safety legislation.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Food Production

    • To work as a team member cooking and presenting the required quantity of high quality and nutritious food according to menu and recipe specifications.

    • To be able to prepare a wide variety of foods as requested by the senior chefs and to always check preparation methods, and flavour before serving any food.

  • StockControl
    • To assist with stock rotation of all foodstuffs including refrigerators and freezers. To label, date and properly store all foodstuffs in appropriate storage areas.

    • To bring to the attention of the senior chefs any stock shortages or shortfalls as soon as they are apparent.

  • FoodHygieneandHealthandSafety
    • To carry out duties in adherence to the College Food Hygiene Policy, and current Food Hygiene and Health & Safety legislation.

    • To be familiar with Fire Safety and COSHH policies of the College.

Employment arrangements
  • This is a permanent appointment (subject to a three month probation period).
  • The full time hours are 40 hours per week, to be worked on a shift basis, including evenings and weekends.
  • Competitive salary of £31, 000 – £34,000 per annum FTE depending on skills and experience.
