Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation with offices across England, is currently looking to recruit a Chartered Building Surveyor for an initial 12 month contract on a salary of £38,067 per annum, excellent holidays and pension scheme. This role will be a hybrid of working at home and in the office.
Responsibilities:
- Advise applicants to grant programmes (building trusts, community groups, lessees, private owners, etc.), and their professional advisers, on whether their proposals for the historic asset are appropriate in terms of conservation, repair and sustainability for its age and future use, or to suggest alternatives which are deliverable.
- Advise applicants to the grant programmes, and their professional advisers, on other sources of match-funding.
- Ascertain whether schemes for which funding is being applied have reached an appropriate level of development to enable them to deliver the conservation, repair and sustainability outcomes agreed in the allotted timeframe.
- Produce clear, concise and accurate written reports and funding proposals to inform the awarding of grant monies to successful applications, liaising with other building professionals both in the applicants’ professional teams and within the organisation.
- Assist in coordinating the delivery of each phase of the grant programme, acting as a central resource to assist regional teams throughout the programme’s timeline.
- Monitor grant-aided or commissioned work to confirm that it meets the necessary standard, recommend grant payments and to undertake post-grant monitoring.
- Be an active member of the Regions Centre team, contributing to its work and supporting the work of Regions Group.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade and competencies required of the post, as requested by line management.
- Professional chartership with Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, or equivalent qualifications from other countries that are accepted by those professional bodies
- Extensive experience of the repair, alteration and adaption of traditional buildings and of design in an historic context
- Extensive experience of working with communities to ensure their voice is heard in the planning and design of their local environment
- Extensive experience of specifying works to upgrade traditional buildings to meet current regulations and standards
- Experience in project management
- Evidence of an interest in, and work towards, accreditation in historic building conservation through schemes appropriate to your professional background
- Working knowledge of traditional building construction, and the range of methods for the repair of traditional buildings, together with a good working knowledge of the implications of current English construction industry regulations in relation to them
- Working knowledge of English secular and ecclesiastical architecture of all periods
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of historic building conservation as exemplified in Conservation Principles, and familiarity with current issues affecting historic buildings and the historic environment
- Ability to approach repair problems and possible solutions in a practical and creative way
- Ability to write clear and concise reports
- Ability to coordinate and prioritise own workload and to work to tight deadlines
