Qualifications

Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sexual health nurse to further develop leadership, management, and clinical skills at the Mortimer Market Centre for 12 months, covering maternity leave.

Mortimer Market Centre is a large Integrated Sexual Health service in Camden, providing care to a diverse group of patients.

The post holder, with the other Charge Nurse, will lead and line manage a team of nurses and healthcare support workers. They will work with the Service Manager, Clinical Team Lead, and the MDT to ensure high-quality, cost-effective care.

We are committed to continually improving access to sexual health and contraceptive care.

Main duties of the job

• Manage and lead the nursing team and healthcare support workers (HCSWs) within the clinic, ensuring the team receives support and development.
• Act as a role model, assessor, and mentor for the nursing team, inspiring staff and students with their vision and values.
• Facilitate the development of policy, guidelines, care pathways, and patient group directions.
• Provide high-quality, specialist Sexual Health care based on clinical evidence, as part of the MDT and autonomously.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities

• Leadership and Management: Manage and lead the nursing team and HCSWs, ensuring support and development.
• Perform appraisals and performance reviews to strengthen practice.
• Ensure mandatory training is completed.
• Provide clinical supervision for staff and HCSWs.
• Utilise management supervision from the Service Manager.
• Develop nurses' roles and contributions to patient care pathways and service provision.
• Develop the HCSW role.
• Review work performance and progress.
• Manage performance and sickness, including HR processes.
• Act as a role model, assessor, and mentor.
• Develop policies, guidelines, and care pathways.
• Participate in staff retention, recruitment, and organizational change.
• Assist in budget monitoring, stock management, and resource allocation.
• Attend service development meetings and chair team forums.
• Organise nurses' education and training.
• Collaborate with leads from other sites to share ideas and improve practices.
• Contribute to the business plan and resource efficiency.
• Report incidents and lead investigations to ensure learning.
• Prepare evidence for service progress and Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs).
• Support service improvements and staff through change processes.
• Develop the role of apprentices as needed.

Qualifications

• RGN with UK NMC registration (Adult branch).
• BASHH or equivalent Sexual Health training.
• Diploma in Contraception or equivalent UK training.
• FSRH LOC SDI and IUD or willingness to train.

Desirable

• Management qualification or leadership training (e.g., LEO).
• Independent Nurse Prescriber.
