£35,005 to £36,608 per annum based on a 42-hour week including a 20% shift allowance.(For exceptional performers, there is scope for further progression up to £42,100 per annum)

Campus Life is all about the various services that enhance the overall student experience, including sports, recreational facilities and community engagement.

Whereas our Student Living teams ensure the safety, comfort and compliance of the University's residential estates.

Our security team are key to the University's success. Generally being the first interaction our customers and visitors will have with us, the service they receive from you and the team will shape their experience.

The full-time working hours for this role are 42 hours per week. The role is on a 24/7 shift pattern consisting of a current 4 on 4 off pattern.

We are looking for an individual who is a customer focussed team player with an eye for detail.

You will be responsible for providing a welcoming, safe and secure environment, whilst encouraging all site users to promote a secure environment through their own conduct. You will also be responsible for providing security control room management services, advice, guidance, and support on all security related matters, across multiple sites, ensuring continued excellence in performance, profile and service at all times. Your role will be key to ensuring excellent security services delivery and pivotal in leading our security teams.

The anticipated interview date will be W/C 19th May 2025.

To be successful in this role, you will bring a solid foundation of academic achievement, holding GCSEs at grades A–C in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications, alongside a full, clean UK driving licence to support operational flexibility. You will have demonstrable experience in team-oriented environments, where collaboration and effective communication were key to achieving shared goals.

You will have worked in a fast-paced control room or security setting, with hands-on experience managing CCTV operations across multiple sites. Your background will include allocating and overseeing tasks for security personnel from a central control room, ensuring resources are deployed effectively to reduce risk. You will have planned and delivered proactive patrol strategies, aligned to specific risk profiles, and adapted them as needed based on dynamic security demands.

Furthermore, you will be proficient in compiling comprehensive reports and briefing materials, as well as conducting initial investigations into security breaches or incidents of crime. Your analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure will be essential in contributing to the safety and integrity of the organisation.

  • Provide and supervise a high-profile security service aimed at, maintaining and promoting the safety and security of all University property, facilities and equipment, and that of all associated users, whilst on duty. Also e nsuring a 24hr point of contact and response service across all areas of the University. Providing in-person emergency response across any location if required
  • Co-ordinate and control of the activities of the Security staff, ensuring sufficient resource is available, providing guidance, instruction and support at all times, monitoring performance and providing feedback for development and review.
  • Collate and source information and intelligence reading any activity that may affect University life, regardless of location, and disseminate to all duty staff as appropriate, including hosting daily team meetings.
  • Ensure targeted high visibility patrols, both physical and electronic, of all University sites intended to deter and reduce crime and antisocial behaviour are undertaken and ensure the physical security of buildings and the safety of persons.
  • Ensure that all routine tasks are performed at the appropriate time by directing and deploying resources appropriately and by updating all task and event calendars with timed reminders.
  • Ensure a prompt and effective response to any incident such as, alarm activations, reports of crime, antisocial behaviour, or any other incident, occurring on University controlled premises.
  • Gather evidence of offences and breaches of Student discipline, record statements from witnesses, and be prepared to give evidence before disciplinary panels.
  • Take ownership of the total control room function, maintaining databases; operating radio, CCTV, Access, computer systems, and other similar equipment, in accordance with agreed procedures and legal requirements.
  • Take a pivotal role in managing all incidents from minor to critical ensure appropriate resource and escalation process are implemented.
  • Record all incidents by creating a concise, accurate and complete incident report.
  • Identify, investigate and report all risks, and ensure appropriate steps are taken to remove or mitigate their effects.
  • Take control of all scenes of crime and emergency situations until or if relieved and ensure an appropriate response is delivered.
  • Liaise and assist, where appropriate, with the Police and other external agencies in investigating all criminal activity affecting the University and its users.
  • Ensure a 24hr point of contact and a sufficiently resourced response service across all areas of the University.
  • Monitor tradesmen, and contractors ensure correct behaviour is observed at all times.
  • To be prepared to reasonably adjust working hours and arrangements were necessary and cover for absences.
  • Comply with all Legislation, University policies and procedures and any reasonable instructions given by Supervisors and Managers.
  • Ensure a 24-hour point of contact and response service across all areas of the University. Providing in-person emergency response across any location if required.
  • To undertake any other duties as seen appropriate by the Head of Security.
  • GCSE grades A-C/4 or above in Maths and English or equivalent qualification

  • Experience of working in a busy control room environment or security function

Qualifications
  • Current first aid at work certificate
  • Security related qualification or the ability to work towards
  • Customer service or similar at level 3 or demonstrable experience
  • IT Qualification or equivalent experience
