Job description

Are you looking to progress your career by working on Britain’s biggest construction project?

Balfour Beatty VINCI is collaborating with various organizations to design and build a 90km stretch of HS2 in the West Midlands—Britain’s new high-speed railway. Our work is crucial for enabling HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham and continue to Manchester. This is an exciting time to join us as we are at peak construction, working on a broad range of assets including bridges, tunnels, and viaducts. You would be part of a team of 9,000 people from 72 nationalities working on this significant project across the region.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a CCTV Operative within our Security team. This role is based on-site at locations around Kingsbury and Lichfield, which are part of the northernmost section of the West Midlands HS2 stretch, from Water Orton to Lichfield. The sites are mainly rural and connect HS2 to the West Coast Mainline.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Promote the principles of the BBV way, act responsibly, maintain professionalism, confidence, good manners, and a positive attitude, especially in stressful situations. Be diligent, communicative in report writing, and enthusiastic about personal development.
  2. Understand operational requirements of the Video Surveillance Systems (VSS), including its capabilities and expectations from the wider business.
  3. Gather incident information thoroughly and present evidence effectively.
  4. Operate the Video Surveillance Systems (VSS) daily to ensure the CCTV control room complies with the CCTV code of practice and remains operational at all times.
  5. Work a rotating 24-hour shift pattern, including weekends and bank holidays, throughout the year.
  6. Maintain all electronic records, logs, and paperwork related to CCTV processes, following operational guidelines and procedures.
  7. Monitor the control room Video Management System, detect and respond to adversary or safety threats, and react to alarms according to procedures.
  8. Proactively respond to adverse activities, liaise with BBV Watchkeeper for immediate or remedial actions, and ensure proper notifications.

Experience Required:

  1. Good understanding of CCTV principles and usage, aligned with the CCTV SIA Handbook.
  2. Willingness to broaden knowledge through training and development.
  3. Knowledge of Surveillance Code of Practice, GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, criminal law, and Human Rights Act 1998.
  4. Effective communication skills—oral, written, and IT proficiency (Word, Excel, SharePoint).
  5. Attention to detail for incident reporting and maintaining concentration under pressure.
  6. Customer care skills and professional telephone manner.
  7. Ability to assess situations, identify risks, monitor incidents, and communicate clearly.
  8. Team player with clear thinking and good judgment to prioritize actions.
  9. Strong problem-solving skills related to VSS information management.
  10. Physical fitness and the ability to manage concentration levels effectively.

Note: Candidates must have a valid right to work in the UK.
