Job summary

Sodexo UK is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Chef to join our catering team. You will prepare, cook, and serve meals to high standards, ensuring safety, quality, and customer satisfaction across all outlets.

In this role you’ll support food preparation, maintain hygiene and safety practices, attend trainings, and contribute to a professional, collaborative kitchen environment within a defence/military setting.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a similar catering, hospitality, or food service role.
• Catering qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 or 3, City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, HND, BSc Catering, or equivalent.
• Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and health and safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standards and procedures.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience working within a military or defence environment.
• IOSH qualification or equivalent.
• Customer-facing experience.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve meals in accordance with approved recipes and menu specifications.
• Ensure food is cooked, stored, and served at the correct temperatures.
• Monitor and record temperatures of fridges, freezers, hot cabinets, and serving areas.
• Support food preparation, presentation, storage, and disposal activities.
• Assist with hot plate service and live cooking where required.
• Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene, health and safety, and cleanliness.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
• Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries.
• Report accidents, near misses, and faulty equipment promptly.
• Complete opening, closing, and handover procedures in line with company requirements.
• Attend team meetings, training sessions, and performance reviews as required.
• Support the wider catering operation and undertake additional duties as directed by management.
