About the Blavatnik School of Government

Our vision is of a world better led, a world better served and a world better governed. We are a global school committed to improving the quality of government and public policymaking worldwide, through three routes: teaching current and future leaders; generating research with impact; and engaging with governments and practitioners.

What we offer

The School is a collaborative, friendly, and dynamic department based in an award-winning building in Oxford. We host regular events and talks with well-known guest speakers – all of which are open to staff.

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing, and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer. More information about working at the School can be found on our website.

About the role

The Blavatnik School of Government is seeking an exceptional writer and researcher to join the award-winning Case Centre on Public Leadership to develop interactive and immersive teaching materials based on real-world policy challenges.

The Case Writer role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the School’s mission by designing teaching materials that connect academic theories to the toughest challenges of public service, helping students develop their skills and knowledge for public leadership. You will work closely with the Case Centre team, faculty, and public policy practitioners to turn real-world policy challenges into compelling cases, simulations, and other learning material on topics as varied as public spending decisions in Greece, civil service reform in Ghana, and the politics of fuel subsidies in Indonesia.

The work entails managing projects, conducting desk research, interviewing senior practitioners, writing compelling narratives, constructing exhibits, and designing effective interactive teaching sessions.

You will have a varied workload, balancing months-long projects with other short-term activities and contributing to the administrative duties of the small team, such as disseminating teaching materials and supporting training workshops.

This is a three-year post, with extension possible subject to funding.

About you

You will have excellent writing skills, with demonstrated experience of managing substantial writing projects from conception to dissemination. You will be able toconduct in-depth research independently, clearly communicate complex concepts to generalist audiences, and craft compelling and balanced narratives on a range of policy topics. You will have strong organisational and interpersonal skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and a strong eye for detail. Case-writing experience is an advantage but not necessary; the right candidate will be trained on the job. Additionally, experience (or an interest) in teaching and learning would be welcome.
