Job summary

Freightliner is seeking a Cargo Handler in Southampton to support the cargo team as part of our growing intermodal network. You will load and unload import and export cargo, using our bespoke systems and equipment while maintaining a strong safety culture across all tasks.

The role emphasizes health and safety, accurate documentation, and adherence to company procedures. A full UK driving licence and experience with counterbalance forklifts are essential.

Qualifications

• Hold a full UK driving licence.

• Experience operating a counterbalance forklift, banksman duties and related equipment.
• Experience loading and unloading cargo.

Responsibilities

• Safely secure and handle cargo, including loading export and unloading import containers.
• Carry out inspections of containers prior to export and on arrival for import.
• Complete all documentation accurately and within timescales.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and health and safety.
• Use tools and equipment correctly, wearing PPE at all times.
• Follow risk assessments and safe systems of work.

The role

With a new state of art infrastructure and recent investment in Vehicle Booking System (VBS) and technology, we are looking for the right individual to join and support our Cargo team in Southampton.

As a Cargo Handler, you will be responsible for loading and unloading import and cargo , in line with customer requirements. You will utilise bespoke technology to support your daily activities, while sharing our culture where health and safety is the number one priority.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely secure and handle cargo, including loading export containers and unloading import containers in line with company procedures.
• Carry out thorough inspections of containers prior to export loading and on arrival for import, ensuring they are free from damage and meet customer and company standards.
• Complete all documentation accurately and within required timescales.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and health safety.
• Use tools, machinery and equipment correctly and responsibly, wearing the required PPE at all times.
• Follow all risk assessments and safe systems of work.

About You

• Hold a full UK driving licence
• Have a strong understanding of the importance of health and safety and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining safe working practices.
• Have experience operating a counterbalance forklift, acting as a banksman, and using other related equipment.
• Have experience loading and unloading cargo.
