Job summary

Freightliner is seeking a Traffic Clerk in Southampton to input and manage all container movements within the terminal, using Freightliner IT systems to ensure safe and cost-effective operations. You will release containers to third parties and perform general clerical duties, while delivering high levels of customer service.

The role requires excellent IT skills, flexibility in shift patterns, and a strong commitment to health and safety.

Job title: Traffic Clerk
Location: Southampton
Position Type: Permanent, full-time
Hours of work: 36 hours per week, consisting of 12-hour day and night shifts including weekends, on a rotating schedule from Sunday to Saturday.

The role

We are looking for the right individual to join and support our team in Southampton. As a Traffic Clerk, you will effectively input and manage all container movements within the terminal using Freightliner and Port IT systems in a safe and cost-effective manner, while delivering a high level of customer service. You will ensure the correct release of containers to third parties and carry out general clerical and administrative duties associated with the role. You will utilise bespoke technology to support your daily activities, while sharing our culture where health and safety is the number one priority.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and create all container movement instructions.
• Manage all internal container yard movements within the terminal.
• Plan overhead crane and reach-stacker lifts in the most effective and productive manner, ensuring all loading standards are adhered to.
• Monitor export ship catchers as per local procedures.
• Monitor export arrivals and ensure Dangerous Goods documentation is received and processed correctly.
• Carry out radio communications in a professional manner.
• Deal with queries from internal and external customers.
• Carry out all other clerical and administrative duties commensurate with this role.

• Be flexible in your approach to working hours and shift patterns.
• Have a strong understanding of the importance of health and safety and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining safe working practices.
• Be organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
