Responsibilities

• Open/secure the school premises, including locking/unlocking buildings and gates.
• Carry out routine site, security and health & safety checks.
• Complete minor maintenance and basic repairs.
• Identify and report faults, damage or maintenance issues.
• Check lighting, heating, doors, windows and other site facilities.
• Move furniture, equipment and deliveries around the school as required.
• Set up rooms and areas for lessons, meetings and events.
• Maintain external areas and keep pathways safe.
• Support with cleaning or spillages as required.
• Monitor contractors and visitors on site.
• Ensure equipment and maintenance supplies are stored safely.
• Respond promptly to urgent site or maintenance issues.
• Work closely with school staff to keep premises clean, safe and well maintained.

Are you a reliable, practical and proactive Caretaker looking for an immediate opportunity within a school?

Aspire People are recruiting a School Caretaker to work within a school in the Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) area. We are looking for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming school environment and is confident carrying out a varied range of practical and site-based duties. The Role

As School Caretaker, you will play an important part in the day-to-day running, safety and security of the school site. General duties will include:

• Opening and securing the school premises, including locking/unlocking buildings and gates
• Carrying out routine site, security and health & safety checks
• Completing minor maintenance and basic repairs
• Identifying and reporting faults, damage or maintenance issues
• Checking lighting, heating, doors, windows and other site facilities
• Moving furniture, equipment and deliveries around the school as required
• Setting up rooms and areas for lessons, meetings and school events
• Maintaining external areas and helping to keep pathways and entrances safe
• Supporting with cleaning or emergency spillages where required
• Monitoring contractors and visitors carrying out work on site
• Ensuring equipment and maintenance supplies are stored safely
• Responding promptly to urgent site or maintenance issues
• Working closely with school staff to ensure the premises remain clean, safe, secure and well maintained

What We're Looking For

Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Manager, Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Operative or Handyperson would be beneficial, although candidates with strong practical maintenance or premises experience from other environments are also encouraged to apply.

You will need to be:

• Practical and confident completing basic maintenance tasks
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently
• Proactive with good problem-solving skills
• Health and safety conscious
• Comfortable working within a busy school environment
• Professional and approachable when dealing with staff, pupils and visitors
• Willing to complete the relevant safeguarding and compliance requirements for working within a school
