Job summary

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a mainstream Secondary school based in Caerphilly. The Caretaker role focuses on general repairs, safety and daily site maintenance to support a secure learning environment.

You will communicate clearly with site and cleaning staff, plan routine upkeep, monitor building systems, and address issues promptly to keep the school running smoothly. This temporary assignment supports pupils and staff across a dynamic school site, with a structured onboarding

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience of repairs and general maintenance work.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for giving instructions to contractors and support crews.
• Organisation, multi-tasking and scheduling skills.
• Awareness of inspecting heating, cooling, lighting and alarm systems for good working order.
• Problem-solving skills for addressing safety and maintenance concerns.

Responsibilities

• Ensure general repairs and safety on school site as part of the caretaking team.
• Communicate clearly with site staff and cleaning staff on day-to-day basis.
• Assist with monitoring building systems and basic maintenance tasks.

Wales/ temporary / £14.25 - 15.00 per hour

The school’s site is large and ever-changing, requiring staff to adapt and work with speed and precision.

The school is looking for a Caretaker who is able to adapt their skills to a school environment, showing awareness of the challenges this introduces to the job role. As a Caretaker, you will be expected to work as part of an enthusiastic school staff to ensure general repairs and safety is of the utmost importance on school site. Additionally, you must be able to communicate clearly with site staff and cleaning staff on day-to-day basis.

The successful Caretaker will have:

• Knowledge and experience of repairs and general maintenance work.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for giving instructions to contractors and support crews.
• Organisation, multi-tasking and scheduling skills.
• Awareness of the following: Inspecting the building, including heating, cooling, lighting and alarm systems to make sure they are in good working order.
• Problem-solving skills for addressing safety and maintenance concern.
