Job summary

Academics Ltd is recruiting a reliable Site Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Chatham. You will open and secure premises, carry out general maintenance, health and safety checks, set up classrooms and outdoor areas, and support deliveries and site logistics.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a Site Assistant or similar, a practical hands-on approach, and an Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one). Permanent, 25 hours per week, starting September 2026.

Responsibilities

Academics Ltd is currently recruiting for a reliable, proactive, and hardworking Site Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Chatham. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Site Assistant, Caretaker, or facilities professional looking for a permanent position within a thriving school community.

As the Site Assistant, you will play an important role in ensuring the school premises remain safe, secure, clean, and well-maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors. This is a varied role where no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities

• Opening and securing the school premises each day.
• Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks.
• Completing routine health and safety checks across the school site.
• Ensuring school buildings and grounds are safe, clean, and well-maintained.
• Setting up classrooms, halls, and outdoor areas for school events and activities.
• Monitoring site security and reporting any maintenance or health and safety concerns.
• Assisting with deliveries, contractor access, and general site logistics.
• Supporting the day-to-day upkeep of school facilities, equipment, and grounds.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Previous experience as a Site Assistant, School Caretaker, Site Manager, Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Operative, or in a similar role.
• Good practical maintenance, repair, and DIY skills.
• A sound understanding of health and safety procedures.
• The ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
• A flexible, hands-on, and reliable approach to work.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
