Job summary

JAM Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Site Assistant for a temporary summer project at a school in Gloucester. You will help maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors, and support daily facilities operations.

The role involves basic maintenance, setting up for events, manual handling, health and safety compliance, and opportunities for training and development within a respected educational setting. Immediate start available with potential extension.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Site Assistant, Caretaker, Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Assistant, Handyman or similar role.
• Practical maintenance and DIY skills.
• Basic knowledge of health and safety requirements.
• Ability to undertake manual handling tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of school buildings and grounds.
• Unlock and secure school buildings as required.
• Respond to maintenance requests and carry out basic repairs.
• Set up furniture and equipment for assemblies, meetings and school events.
• Undertake manual handling duties, including moving parcels, furniture and equipment.
• Support health and safety compliance across the site.
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Assist with energy‑efficiency initiatives and site improvement projects.
• Build positive working relationships with staff and site users.

Site Assistant

Location: Gloucester

Salary: £13.26 per hour

Job Type: Temporary (Summer project) with potential extension

Working Pattern: Full‑time (part‑time applications considered). Shift patterns may include weekends.

About the Role

Maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. Support the day‑to‑day operation of the school’s facilities, ensuring buildings and grounds are kept to a high standard and that maintenance tasks are completed efficiently.
