Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is recruiting a Care Assistant to join Willow Gardens Extra Care Service.

The role involves delivering person-centred care to adults aged 55 and over, including those with physical disabilities, dementia or mental health needs. You will assist with personal care, support residents in activities, and promote wellbeing within a supportive Extra Care setting.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to undertake and complete the Care Certificate and work towards a recognised Level 2 Care qualification.
  • Experience of working with or caring for older people, adults with disabilities, or individuals with mental health needs.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • A caring, patient and empathetic approach.

Job Title: Care Assistant (Extra Care)

Salary: Band C SCP 5 – 8 (£26,427 - £27,709)

Location: Willow Gardens, Harvest Road, Rowley Regis, B65 8FG

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 18 hours per week

About The Role

Sandwell Council is looking to recruit a Care Assistant to join our team at Willow Gardens Extra Care Service.

This rewarding role involves providing high-quality care and support to adults aged 55 and over, including individuals with physical disabilities, mental health needs and dementia. You will help people maintain their independence, dignity and wellbeing while supporting them to live fulfilling lives within an Extra Care setting.

Alongside providing personal care where required, you will support residents to take part in a wide range of social, recreational and wellbeing activities. These may include creative arts, celebrations and events throughout the year, gentle exercise sessions, games, bingo, entertainment and community outings.

You will work as part of a committed team, helping to deliver personalised support that reflects the values and standards expected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Working Pattern

The post is currently 18 hours per week over four days and may be subject to change to meet service requirements:

  • Monday: 10:00am – 3:00pm
  • Tuesday: 1:00pm – 5:00pm
  • Wednesday: 10:00am – 3:00pm
  • Friday: 1:00pm – 5:00pm

Flexibility is required to work Bank Holidays and other shifts as needed by the service.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements -

  • Willingness to undertake and complete the Care Certificate and work towards a recognised Level 2 Care qualification.
  • Experience of working with or caring for older people, adults with disabilities, or individuals with mental health needs.

Desirable -

  • Experience within a residential, domiciliary or Extra Care setting.

  • Medication administration training or willingness to undertake training.
