Job summary

Sandwell Council is recruiting a Kitchen Domestic for Willow Gardens Extra Care Scheme in Rowley Regis to support a 20-hour-per-week meal service. You will help heat, prepare and serve meals, maintain cleanliness, and ensure food safety and documentation requirements are met.

You will work a 4 days on/4 days off rota, including weekends and bank holidays as required, with DBS checks and required competencies. This role supports older adults and people with disabilities within a caring team.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering or kitchen environments.
• Ability to prepare meals on a large scale from a planned menu.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Understanding of food hygiene standards and health and safety requirements in a commercial kitchen.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and bank holidays.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of a meal service that promotes independence and wellbeing for people who use our services.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness within the kitchen and dining areas.
• Assist with the heating, preparation and serving of meals.
• Support stock control, stock rotation and the ordering of supplies.
• Complete relevant food safety and service documentation.
• Ensure compliance with Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, COSHH and Infection Prevention requirements.
• Carry out dining room duties, including setting tables and cleaning after meal services.
• Attend supervision sessions, team meetings and training as required.

About the Role

• We are looking to recruit a committed and reliable Kitchen Domestic to join our team at Willow Gardens Extra Care Scheme.
• Working within our Extra Care Service, you will support the delivery of a safe, efficient and high-quality meal service for older people and adults with disabilities.
• You will play an important role in maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen environment, supporting the preparation and serving of meals, and ensuring food safety regulations are adhered to at all times.
• In the absence of the Kitchen Assistant, you will be required to heat and serve meals, supervise the kitchen area and ensure all food handling practices meet the required standards.

Key Responsibilities

Support the delivery of a meal service that promotes independence and wellbeing for people who use our services.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or is willing to obtain one.
• Has experience working within a catering or kitchen environment.
• Has experience preparing meals on a large scale from a planned menu.
• Can work effectively as part of a team.
• Has good written and verbal communication skills.
• Understands food hygiene standards and health and safety requirements within a commercial kitchen. Is able to maintain confidentiality and accurate records.
• Can demonstrate compassion, dignity and respect when working with older people and adults with disabilities. Is flexible and able to work shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
