Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking an ultrasound technologist to perform two-dimensional echocardiography and Doppler analysis for physician diagnosis of heart disease. The role supports assessment of cardiac structure and function with real-time imaging.

You will prepare equipment, position patients, and ensure high-quality data acquisition while correlating findings with clinical indications and physician input.

Qualifications

• Explain procedures to patients and position them for examinations.
• Discuss test results with physicians when indicated.

Responsibilities

• Selects equipment for ultrasound setup according to examination specifications.
• Explains process to patient; instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
• Discusses test results with physician when indicated.
• Attaches electrodes to patient's chest to monitor heart rhythm and connects electrodes to ultrasound equipment.
• Produces real-time images of cardiac anatomy and adjusts equipment to obtain quality images.
• Moves transducer over heart areas, observes ultrasound display and Doppler signals to acquire data.
• Measures heart wall thickness and chamber sizes; compares to standard norms to identify abnormalities.
• Measures blood flow velocities and calculates data for evaluation of cardiac function.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Produces two dimensional ultrasonic recordings and Doppler flow analysis of heart and related structures for use by Physician in diagnosis of heart disease and study of heart.

Major Responsibilities

• a. Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination.
• b. Explains process to patient; instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
• c. Discusses test results with Physician when indicated.
• d. Attaches electrodes to patient's chest to monitor heart rhythm and connects electrodes to electrode leads of ultrasound equipment.
• e. Produces images of real time tomographic cardiac anatomy and adjusts equipment to obtain quality images.
• f. Moves transducer over patient's heart areas, observes ultrasound display screen and listens to Doppler signals to acquire data for measurement of blood flow velocities.
• g. Measures heart wall thickness and chamber sizes recorded or keys commands into computer to measure thickness and chamber sizes of heart and compares measurement to standard norms to identify abnormalities in the heart.
• h. Measures blood flow velocities and calculates data such as cardiac physiology and valve areas for evaluation of cardiac function by Physician.
• i. Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Range:

$45.00 - $66.87

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
