Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) AIS seeks a Senior Sustainability Engineer to drive carbon reduction in data center design across the EMEA region. You will create mechanisms to identify opportunities for carbon reduction and track their success.

You will collaborate with the Sustainability teams to reduce carbon intensity, own regional tracking, and support sustainability certifications; up to 25% travel across the EMEA region is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
• Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations for the region.
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
• Reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
• Knowledge of carbon technologies such as Direct Air Capture and Material Decarbonization.
• Master’s Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Policy or related field.

Responsibilities

• Understanding the design and functionality of AWS data centers globally.
• Creating and modifying mechanisms to track carbon throughout the project life-cycle.
• Owning the tracking of carbon for projects within your region and coordinating with construction teams.
• Identifying project/region-specific opportunities to reduce carbon on builds.
• Propose and develop carbon reduction initiatives implemented globally across the AWS fleet.
• Owning sustainability certifications for builds in your region as mandated by permits or policies.
• Supporting public policy teams in engaging with local authorities on sustainability issues.
• Producing clear documentation such as design specifications, white papers, and reports.
• Initiating and driving sustainability initiatives for future data center designs.
• Providing creative, out-of-the-box solutions and a positive approach.
