Job summary

Randstad CPE in Cardiff is seeking a precision-focused calibration and inspection lead to own our lab operations. You will act as technical authority, maintaining equipment, driving UKAS accreditation growth, and leading ISO audits. The role requires developing new lab capabilities and signatory competence, with strong Excel and auditing skills to support continual improvements. Based in the UK, you will collaborate with the Quality Manager and ensure safety and traceability across the lab.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a recognised inspection or testing environment.
• Strong understanding of ISO 17020 and ISO 9001 standards; UKAS laboratory management experience is a plus.
• Relevant technical qualification; IOSH Managing Safely and Laboratory Internal Auditor certifications preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills for building math/calculation models, PAT testing experience, and internal auditing skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail, integrity, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, calibrate, and validate test equipment while ensuring compliance with ISO 17020/17025.
• Lead UKAS accreditation activities and external audits; collaborate with Quality Manager.
• Authorise signatory competence and write/validate calibration methods; build calculation tools in Excel.
• Identify capability gaps and develop new internal testing capabilities; deliver quarterly growth reports.
• Manage lab safety risk assessments, equipment traceability, non-conformances, and environmental monitoring.

We are seeking an experienced candidate to take ownership of our calibration and inspection operations.

In this role, you will be the technical authority for your assigned discipline, keeping our testing equipment running accurately, driving UKAS accreditation growth, leading external audits (ISO 17020 / ISO 9001), and developing new lab capabilities.

What You'll Do

• Ensure Technical Excellence: Maintain, calibrate, and validate test equipment while ensuring all work meets ISO 17020 and ISO 17025 standards.
• Lead Accreditation & Audits: Serve as the technical lead for UKAS and external audits, working closely with the Quality Manager.
• Develop & Train: Authorise signatory competence for staff, write and validate new calibration methods, and build operational calculation tools (Excel).
• Drive Capability: Identify gaps, build new internal testing capabilities, and deliver quarterly growth reports.
• Maintain Quality & Safety: Manage lab safety risk assessments, equipment traceability, non-conformance investigations, and environmental monitoring.

What We're Looking For

• Experience: 5+ years working within a recognised inspection or testing environment.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of ISO 17020 and ISO 9001 standards; UKAS laboratory management experience is a plus.
