Job summary

Brighton & Hove City Council is seeking a Building Surveyor to deliver surveying services across its diverse corporate portfolio, including civic buildings, schools and cultural venues. You will inspect, diagnose defects, prepare specifications and manage projects from inception through to completion.

You’ll work with Senior Building Surveyors and a multidisciplinary team to deliver planned maintenance, refurbishment and compliance improvements that ensure assets remain safe, sustainable and fit

Qualifications

• You will hold a degree in Building Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• You have experience delivering building surveying services and property improvement projects.
• You possess strong knowledge of building defects, maintenance, and refurbishment works.
• You can prepare specifications, manage procurement processes and administer building contracts.
• You are familiar with CDM 2015, Building Regulations and safety requirements.
• You can manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• You have strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• You are committed to inclusive, customer-focused services.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking condition surveys, inspections and defect investigations.
• Preparing feasibility studies, technical reports, specifications and schedules of work.
• Managing planned maintenance and capital projects from inception to completion.
• Acting in contract administration and project management roles.
• Managing consultants and contractors, monitoring performance, programme and budgets.
• Applying Principal Designer duties as required under CDM.
• Supporting sustainability, accessibility and compliance improvements.
