Job summary

Purosearch Ltd. in Nottingham is seeking a Building Physics Consultant to deliver energy modelling and building physics expertise across diverse projects.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Physics, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Sustainability or a related discipline.
• Experience in a building physics, energy modelling or sustainability consultancy environment.
• Practical experience using IES VE for energy modelling and simulation.
• Understanding of building physics principles including heat transfer, solar gains, ventilation and thermal comfort.
• Experience undertaking overheating and/or thermal comfort assessments.
• Understanding of building energy performance and low-carbon design principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret modelling outputs and translate analyses into practical design advice.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage own workload within a wider project team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed building energy models using IES VE.
• Carry out dynamic thermal modelling and building energy simulations.
• Undertake energy and carbon assessments for new-build and refurbishment projects.
• Assess building fabric, glazing, shading, ventilation and building services performance.
• Provide advice on passive design strategies and opportunities to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.
• Undertake overheating assessments and thermal comfort analysis.
• Support compliance assessments and energy performance calculations where required.
• Analyse modelling results and communicate findings clearly to clients and project teams.
• Produce technical reports, calculations and presentations.
• Work collaboratively with architects, MEP engineers, sustainability consultants and other project stakeholders.
• Attend design meetings and contribute building physics expertise throughout the design process.
• Keep up to date with relevant building regulations, standards, industry guidance and emerging sustainability requirements.
• Support the development of energy-efficient and low-carbon design strategies.

About the Role

We are looking for a talented and motivated Building Physics Consultant to join our growing team in Nottingham.

The role will involve providing building physics and energy modelling expertise across a range of building projects, helping clients and design teams develop energy-efficient, comfortable and sustainable buildings.

A key part of the role will be the use of IES VE (Integrated Environmental Solutions) to undertake energy modelling, thermal analysis and performance assessments. You will work closely with architects, engineers and other consultants to influence building design and deliver practical, evidence-based solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed building energy models using IES VE.

You will ideally have:

• Practical experience using IES VE for energy modelling and simulation.
• An understanding of building physics principles, including heat transfer, solar gains, ventilation and thermal comfort.

• LEED Certification.
• Passivhaus or other high-performance building standards.
• Embodied carbon and whole-life carbon assessments.
• Daylight and solar analysis.
• Parametric modelling or scripting.
• Experience working on a range of sectors such as commercial, residential, education, healthcare or mixed-use developments.
