Job summary

Protocol Education in Leeds is seeking a skilled BSL Teaching Assistant to support pupils with hearing impairments and additional learning needs. This is a full-time, long-term role starting September 2026, with daily PAYE pay rates from £93 to £130.

You will work one-to-one and in small groups using British Sign Language to aid communication and learning. You'll collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and families to build confidence, independence and inclusive classroom participation, in welcoming

Qualifications

  • BSL Level 3 qualification or above (preferred).
  • Experience working with children or young people in education or care settings.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, hearing impairments or additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with hearing impairments one-to-one and in small groups.
  • Use British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication throughout the school day.
  • Help pupils take part in lessons and classroom activities with confidence.
  • Encourage independence, social development and positive relationships.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents and external professionals.
  • Create a calm, inclusive learning environment where every child can flourish.

What you'll be doing
  • Supporting pupils with hearing impairments on a one-to-one basis and in small groups
  • Using British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication throughout the school day
  • Helping pupils take part in lessons and classroom activities with confidence
  • Encouraging independence, social development and positive relationships
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents and external professionals
  • Creating a calm, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every child can flourish
What we're looking for
  • BSL Level 3 qualification or above (preferred)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
