Job summary

New Chapter Tuition Ltd is looking for a BSL Level 3 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a deaf KS4 student within a mainstream secondary school in Lewisham.

The student is learning British Sign Language and requires consistent support to develop communication, access learning and build confidence and independence within school.

The role may be a long-term temporary/contract position or direct employment with the school, with ongoing support from New Chapter Tuition.

Qualifications

• Minimum BSL Level 3 qualification.
• Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired children or young people is desirable.
• Communication Support Workers and qualified or trainee BSL Interpreters are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
• Introduce and model BSL to develop the student's communication skills.
• Support communication between the student, teachers and peers.
• Use BSL alongside gesture, visual prompts and modelling.
• Support access to lessons and the wider school day.
• Encourage confidence, communication and independence.
