Job summary

City of Portsmouth College is seeking a part-time British Sign Language Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support a student in the Automotive department. The role requires proficiency in BSL up to level 3 and involves 1:1 support in a classroom/workshop setting, including break and lunch times and external outings.

The postholder will promote independence and high expectations, working with college staff to monitor progress and adapt to Educational Health Care Plan requirements.

Qualifications

• BSL Level 3 qualification and relevant experience.
• Ability to support young people in classroom and workshop settings.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Knowledge of working with students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
• Communicating for a deaf student in all lessons
• Monitoring and recording students' progress
• Work collaboratively with the class teachers and other college staff
