Job summary

Connex Education Partnership seeks a dedicated BSL Interpreter in Birmingham City Centre to support sixth-form learners. You will provide interpretive support for deaf students, including some note-taking duties, to help improve focus and learning outcomes.

Role includes sessions around two hours per day, five days a week, with opportunities for additional hours and flexible scheduling. Minimum BSL level 3+ required, with experience working with young deaf learners.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young deaf people.
• Interpretation of complex terminology for sixth-form learners (Maths/Physics).
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide BSL interpretation for deaf pupils.

About Connex Education

At Connex Education Partnership, we deliver personalised one-to-one tuition to young people who are unable to access mainstream education. Through our Alternative Provision service, we help learners re-engage with education, develop confidence, and achieve meaningful academic and personal progress in a supportive environment. We are looking for a BSL Interpreter to help support our tutors providing this education to deaf learners.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic BSL Interpreter to provide interpretive support to sixth-form learners in Birmingham City Centre.

This role involves working with young deaf people who may also present with additional needs such as Autism, SEMH needs, or moderate learning difficulties. Alongside interpreting, you will also have note-taking duties.

As a BSL Interpreter, you will play a vital role in helping students improve focus, build confidence, develop positive learning habits, and achieve their educational goals.

Sessions are typically around two hours per day, 5 days a week, with opportunities for additional hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide BSL Interpretation for our deaf pupils
• Support deaf learners with a range of SEND and communication needs.
• Monitor student progress and complete session feedback.
• Work collaboratively with families, schools, local authorities, and other professionals.
• Create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
• Note taking

About You

We welcome applications from minimum BSL level 3+ holders. You will be interpreting for students learning at sixth-form level, including Maths and Physics, therefore understanding of how to interpret complex terminology is required.

You should have:

• Experience working with young deaf people
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• A patient, flexible, and nurturing approach.
