Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Industrial or Summer Placement student to support our Bridge Structures team in Birmingham. You will contribute to feasibility studies, inspections and detailed design, while gaining hands-on experience across multiple project activities.

The role offers exposure to CAD, 3D modelling and engineering analysis, with opportunities for site visits and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with an expected 2:1 or higher.
• Strong interest in bridge structures and structural engineering; career in this field.
• Some prior exposure to an engineering environment (placement, shadowing, or coursework) is desirable.
• Interest in software-based engineering and design (e.g., CAD, 3D modelling).
• Willingness to travel for project-related site visits as required.

Responsibilities

• Producing CAD drawings and supporting structural design tasks.
• Assisting with project administration, record-keeping, and documentation.
• Reviewing and analysing technical data to inform engineering decisions.
• Contributing to problem-solving and developing design solutions under supervision.
• Participating in site visits to gather information or observe conditions.
• Collaborating with engineers across AECOM disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
• Applying health and safety practices during site and office-based tasks.
