Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an Assistant Engineer / Engineer to deliver civil and bridge projects in the South West & Wales region. You will supervise and support junior team members while ensuring quality on time and budget, applying Eurocodes and relevant standards.

The role involves bridge design, strengthening and inspections, fee estimates, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. A Chartered trajectory and development through Chartership are encouraged.

Qualifications

• MEng or MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Graduate membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers, nearing chartership.
• Experience in bridge design, maintenance or assessment.
• Experience of Eurocodes or sector codes/standards (e.g. Network Rail, DMRB).
• Interest in finite element analysis software and parametric design techniques.
• Commercial awareness and cost management.
• Good report-writing skills.
• Strong communication, client handling and interpersonal skills; willingness to develop others.

Responsibilities

• Bridge design and feasibility work.
• Bridge strengthening, repair, inspections and assessments.
• Support general civil/structural engineering tasks for other teams.
• Contribute to feasibility studies and options appraisals.
• Prepare specifications, reports and health and safety risk assessments.
• Prepare fee estimates.
• Supervise junior team members.
