Job summary

Hastings Hotels seeks a reliable Breakfast Chef to lead breakfast kitchen operations at Ballygally Castle, ensuring Hastings standards are met from 6am to 2pm. The role involves supervising staff, managing stock, and maintaining a harmonious, efficient kitchen environment within a 35-hour week.

Applicants should have NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking, a valid Food Hygiene Certificate, and experience in a quality catering setup. Right to work in the UK is required.

Qualifications

• Must have NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Food Preparation and Cooking.
• Must hold a recognised current Food Hygiene Certificate.
• Right to Work in the United Kingdom.
• Experience in a high quality catering operation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise breakfast kitchen staff and ensure Hastings standards are met.
• Maintain stock control and ordering procedures.
• Provide training and coaching to junior kitchen staff.
• Ensure safety, hygiene and security procedures are followed.
• Communicate with other hotel departments and suppliers to ensure guest satisfaction.

The successful candidate can expect to work 35 hours per week (excluding breaks), five shifts out seven including weekends. Hours can vary but a typical shift pattern is 6am to 2pm.

The salary for this full-time position is £26,648.00 per annum.

About The Role

To prepare and supervise Breakfast to ensure this most important meal of the day is presented to Hastings standards.

1. To take responsibility for the effective supervision of kitchen employees, to ensure efficient operation of the Breakfast function.

2. To promote and contribute to a harmonious working environment where all employees are treated with respect and dignity.

3. To ensure quality standards and procedures are fully understood and implemented, and daily checking procedures are fully applied.

4. To ensure company policies relating to stock control and stock ordering are implemented and monitored.

5. To ensure the junior Kitchen team receive the appropriate training and coaching to provide effective and efficient service in line with Hastings standards.

6. To ensure the junior Kitchen team work to Hastings standards, providing feedback to deliver effective and efficient service.

7. To maintain effective communication and relationships with other hotel departments and suppliers to maintain an effective operation and ensure guest satisfaction.

8. To ensure the security of kitchen and storage areas is maintained.

9. To ensure the kitchen areas, fixtures and equipment are properly maintained.

10. To ensure a safe environment is maintained in compliance with health, safety, fire, hygiene and security legislation and company policies and procedures.

11. Any other duties as required.

Required Criteria

• Good communication skills
• A clean and tidy appearance
• Must have excellent attention to detail
• Right to Work in the United Kingdom
• Must have previous experience at a similar level gained within a high quality catering operation
• Must have NVQ level 2 or the equivalent in Food Preparation and Cooking and hold a recognised current Food Hygiene Certificate

Desired Criteria

• Experience as a breakfast Chef
• Educated to GCSE Standard or the equivalent including English and Maths
• Basic Food Hygiene certificate
