Job summary

Reed is seeking a Bookkeeper in Langport, Somerset, to join a long-established practice renowned for supporting local businesses with accounting and advisory services.

The role focuses on maintaining client bookkeeping, VAT returns, and use of cloud platforms like Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage. AAT or equivalent is advantageous but not essential, with a friendly team and opportunities for development in a structured firm.

Qualifications

• Previous bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice or similar environment.
• Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principles.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Confident communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining accurate bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients.
• Processing sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts, and payments.
• Completing bank reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
• Assisting with management accounts preparation.
• Supporting clients with day-to-day accounting queries.
• Working with cloud accounting platforms, including Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage.
• Reviewing bookkeeping records to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Liaising directly with clients to obtain information and provide support.
• Assisting the wider accounts team with year-end accounting requirements.
• Maintaining strong client relationships and delivering excellent customer service.
