The Microbiology laboratory on the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital site, part of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is recruiting a Biomedical Scientist to analyse clinical specimens across serology, culture, microscopy and molecular diagnostics for two acute hospitals and GP practices.

The role requires current HCPC registration and prior experience in an NHS microbiology laboratory, with weekend, bank holiday and on-call rota work. Full training is provided.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
• BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in an NHS microbiology laboratory.
• Post-registration experience at BMS level in microbiology.
• Knowledge of current microbiology methods and techniques.
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).

Responsabilités

• Analyse clinical specimens across serology, culture, microscopy and molecular sections.
• Interpret culture results, identify organisms, run sensitivity tests and report results.
• Receive samples, select tests, handle high-risk specimens, enter patient data and report results.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot analysers and equipment including PCR and serology.
• Work in CL3 and Covid labs with high-risk samples and emergency procedures.
• Perform quality control, audits and adhere to SOPs.
• Manage stock, document control and equipment maintenance.
• Prioritise work by workload and urgency.
• Follow infection control, COSHH, safety and patient confidentiality requirements.
• Work weekends, bank holidays and on-call rotas.
• Maintain professional competence and participate in meetings and projects.
