Job summary

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Biomedical Scientist to join the Microbiology department at Bedford Hospital on a fixed-term maternity cover. The role involves performing microbiological analyses to support timely patient diagnosis across Trust sites and GP practices.

The post requires HCPC registration, a BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent, and a commitment to a developing 24/7 service.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of Microbiology (Bacteriology and Virology).
• Experience in Pathology Laboratory Environment.
• HCPC State registration.
• BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Perform a range of microbiological techniques to support accurate diagnosis.
• Contribute to 24/7 service development and on-call arrangements.
• Support quality management and ISO 15189 compliance.
• Assist with training and competency assessment of staff.
• Follow SOPs and maintain controlled documents (Q-Pulse).
• Ensure safe, efficient delivery of diagnostic services.
