Job summary

Belfast Health & Social Care Trust invites applications for a Biomedical Science Support position in Belfast Laboratories. The post supports qualified Healthcare Scientists in pre-analytical work, equipment maintenance and post-analytical tasks across routine and non-routine sample processing.

The role includes supervising staff, maintaining equipment, and contributing to quality control within a 37.5 hour week, with occasional extended hours and on-call as required.

Qualifications

• 2 GCSEs Maths and English or equivalent with 3 years’ lab experience, 1 year at band 3
• 4 GCSEs including Maths and English or equivalent with 2 years’ lab experience, 1 year at band 3
• NVQ Level 3 in a science subject with 1 year lab experience at band 3
• BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science with 1 year lab experience at band 3

Responsibilities

• Receive, sort samples and record transport information per SOPs
• Prepare and examine routine and non-routine samples per SOPs
• Assist with IQC/UOM/EQAS sample processing
• Assist with statistical analyses for trending of IQC/UOM/EQAS results
• Maintain the laboratory computer system for sample registration and examination
• Supervise ATO/MLA staff and assist in training
• Monitor equipment temperatures and calibration/verification
• Participate in stock checks and ensure adequate supplies
• Process orders for the laboratory
• Contribute to quality control and information governance
• Support income generation contracts for the Laboratory
• Attend Continuous Professional Development activities
• Participate in a 24 hr service within a 37.5 hr week
