Job summary

Portal Biotech Limited in London (Scale Space, White City) is seeking a Biologics Production Scientist to join the Biologics team in DevOps. You will produce, purify and QC proteins and reagents for our platform and R&D projects, ensuring a consistent, documented standard.

As processes are optimized toward product launch, you will help automate and scale these steps, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with platform, chemistry, engineering and R&D colleagues to balance priorities and deliver

Qualifications

• A BSc or MSc in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology or related field.
• Hands-on experience expressing and purifying recombinant proteins, including E. coli.
• Experience with chromatographic purification (FPLC/AKTA, affinity, ion exchange).
• Experience with QC or analytical characterisation of proteins and reagents.
• Experience working to documented procedures within a QMS with careful record‑keeping.
• Ability to troubleshoot and improve lab processes for robustness and yield.
• Strong organisation and communication, balancing priorities with internal customers.

Responsibilities

• Produce and purify recombinant proteins using diverse expression systems (bacterial, cell‑free, and others).
• Prepare buffers and reagents to defined specs, and support validated automated prep.
• Supply R&D projects with proteins/reagents, align specs and timelines, transfer to routine production.
• Optimize and scale production to improve yield, purity, and turnaround.
• Troubleshoot production issues and use data to drive improvements.
• Collaborate with platform, chemistry, engineering and R&D teams.
