Job summary

Lonza is seeking a Principal Scientist to identify and deploy emerging technologies for controllable, automated high-throughput bioprocess models across Integrated Biologics R&D. The role blends technology development, bioengineering, experimental design and automation to create reusable miniaturised platforms for upstream/downstream processes.

Qualifications

• Masters/PhD in biochemical engineering or related field.
• Experience in miniaturized systems, microfluidics or high-throughput platforms.
• Ability to translate development needs into technical requirements.
• Experience with DoE, statistics or data-driven tech development.
• Strong communication and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy high-throughput technologies for upstream/downstream bioprocessing.
• Identify gaps and deliver automated bioprocess solutions for improved control and data generation.
• Define technical requirements for sensors, fluidics, automation and control strategies.
• Lead proof-of-concept studies to evaluate new bioprocess tech.
• Establish standardised model setup, automation, sampling, data capture and assessment.
• Collaborate across Lonza units to integrate new tech into R&D.
• Scout and introduce emerging technologies in miniaturisation and automated platforms.
