Job Description: Bioinformatician at Oxford Nanopore Technologies

Oxford Nanopore Technologies, headquartered at the Oxford Science Park in the UK, with global offices across the US, APAC, and Europe, is a leader in nanopore sequencing technology. Our platform offers real-time, scalable analysis of native DNA or RNA, enabling the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere.

We are seeking a Bioinformatician to join the Sample Technology team within the R&D department. The team focuses on developing tools, techniques, and workflows to support our sequencing devices and improve customer experience through best practice publications.

Responsibilities
  1. Handle and analyze large next-generation sequencing datasets.
  2. Develop bioinformatics pipelines to answer biological questions.
  3. Contribute to experimental design, analysis, and presentation of results.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Biological Science or Computer Science with a bioinformatics focus, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, R), workflow management systems (e.g., NextFlow, Snakemake), and software development practices (e.g., version control).
  • Practical experience with long read sequencing data types.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate scientific results effectively.
Desirable Skills
  • Wet lab experience or collaboration with wet lab scientists.
  • Experience publishing or releasing NGS tools or workflows.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology, genomics, and transcriptomics.
  • Experience in biopharma R&D and quality control processes.
