Job summary

Last Mile is hiring a Billing Specialist for a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. The role reports to the Head of Billing and Non-Contestable Cost Management and focuses on accurate invoicing, billing controls and timely cash collection.

You will work with Project Managers and Credit Control to resolve queries, while maintaining compliant billing records and reporting. This is a fixed-term opportunity in a utilities project environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in finance, billing or accounts receivable with a solid understanding of accounting principles and controls.
• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities to tight deadlines.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work independently and with stakeholders.
• Intermediate Excel skills, data analysis, reporting and reconciliations; experience with ERP/billing systems is desirable.
• Experience in utilities, construction, engineering, telecoms or project-based environments is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, validate and issue accurate customer invoices and credit notes in line with procedures and contracts.
• Maintain project invoice controls, monitor milestones and identify billable activities.
• Produce billing reports, project statements and reconciliations and follow up on actions.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Commercial teams and Credit Control to resolve invoice queries.
• Support month end activities and improve billing processes and reporting.

As a Billing Specialist, you will report to the Head of Billing and Non-Contestable Cost Management and play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely billing across utility infrastructure projects. You will prepare, validate and issue invoices and credit notes in line with contractual requirements, supporting effective cash collection, strong financial control and an excellent customer experience.

Your responsibilities as a Billing Specialist:

• Prepare, validate and issue accurate customer invoices and credit notes, ensuring all supporting documentation and approvals meet company procedures and contractual requirements.
• Maintain project invoice controls, monitor billing milestones and identify billable activities to ensure revenue opportunities are captured promptly.
• Produce billing reports, project statements and reconciliations, following up with stakeholders to ensure outstanding actions are completed.
• Work with Project Managers, Commercial teams and Credit Control to resolve invoice queries, discrepancies, missing information and changes of legal entity.
• Support month end activities, maintain accurate and compliant billing records, and identify improvements to processes, controls and reporting.

Experience / Knowledge:

• Experience in finance, billing or accounts receivable, with a good understanding of basic accounting principles and financial controls.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities to tight deadlines.
• Confident communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, collaborate effectively and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, reporting and reconciliations, with knowledge of ERP, finance or billing systems desirable.
• Experience in utilities, construction, engineering, telecoms or project-based environments, including invoicing against milestones, variations or contractual agreements, is desirable.
