Job summary

Aspire People is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant in Coventry (CV3) to provide 1:1 support to a child with EAL. The role requires fluency in Guri (Somali background) and safeguarding knowledge, with daily collaboration with the class teacher and SEN/EAL staff.

You will help the pupil access classroom learning, use Gujarati alongside English when appropriate, and support social, emotional, and academic development to promote inclusion and engagement throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience providing 1:1 support to a pupil with English as an Additional Language (EAL).
• Ability to communicate and build rapport with a child from a Somalian background.
• Commitment to safeguarding and applying inclusive teaching strategies.
• References covering the last 2 years of employment are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to an EAL pupil throughout the school day.
• Help the pupil access and understand classroom learning and activities.
• Use Gujarati alongside English, where appropriate, to support communication and understanding.
• Encourage the pupil's confidence, independence and participation in school life.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SEN/EAL staff to implement support strategies.
• Provide reassurance to help the child settle into the classroom environment.
• Support the pupil's social and emotional development as well as academic progress.
• Monitor observations and communicate progress to the team.
• Promote an inclusive, positive and supportive learning environment.
