Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting an EAL Teaching Assistant for a diverse secondary school in South Gloucestershire. The role focuses on supporting students who speak English as an Additional Language, helping them develop speaking, listening and writing skills within classroom activities and targeted interventions.

The post is permanent, 32.5 hours per week during term time plus INSET days, with a supportive team and ongoing training to help learners access their education fully.

Qualifications

• A good standard of education, including English and Maths.
• Experience working with children or young people, with school-based experience desirable
• Experience supporting EAL learners or multilingual students desirable
• Knowledge of language acquisition strategies and the ability to adapt learning approaches
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
• A patient, empathetic and inclusive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

• Support students through classroom activities and targeted interventions.
• Help develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
• Work closely with teaching staff to adapt learning to individual needs.
