Job summary

Southend University Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a Bereavement Officer to join the Basildon Hospital team. You will work with staff across all grades to ensure smooth operation of the bereavement office in line with national and hospital guidelines for bereaved families.

Qualifications

• Experience working with bereaved families.
• Excellent communication with patients, families and staff.
• Ability to work in a highly emotional, non-routine environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in day-to-day running of the bereavement office and guide users of the service.
• Undertake administrative duties under the direction of the Lead Bereavement Officer.
• Liaise with medical staff regarding death certificates and cremation papers.
• Maintain accurate death records using the team’s Eden database.
• Coordinate with ward staff on patient property and medical notes.
• Ensure timely notification of death to GPs and relevant health care agencies.
• Support Public Health Funeral documentation with local councils as needed.
• Diarise and arrange viewings with mortuary staff in extenuating circumstances.
• Participate in 7-day working including bank holidays.
