Travers Smith is a leading full-service law firm, with a wealth of experience in its areas of specialisation. The firm has a market-leading reputation for its international expertise in Asset Management, M&A and Dispute Resolution & Investigations. Clients include asset managers across the alternative asset classes (private equity, venture, credit, infrastructure and real estate), publicly listed and private companies, financial institutions, and other business enterprises involved in large and complex UK and cross-border matters, transactions and disputes. Our purpose is to provide the highest quality of service to our clients whilst enabling our people to achieve professional fulfilment in a supportive, inclusive and enjoyable working environment.
Department
The team provides HR support and solutions to the entire firm, with a direct link into the partnership through the Chief People Officer. As the firm grows its business and looks to ensure a competitive advantage, the partnership has made the conscious decision to draw on the knowledge and expertise of a strategic HR team that will deliver commercial and practical advice to help engage, develop, recruit, and retain the best talent.
The HR team has been on a transformational journey and has developed into a department that contributes strategically and aligns the 'People Agenda' with the priorities of the business and the firm's vision. The team has built a reputation and earned credibility that demonstrates the highly professional, proactive, and approachable nature of those who deliver the HR support and solutions. Continuing to strive for excellence, maintaining its brand whilst strengthening the connections and strategic contribution, are the short to medium term goals for all those who form part of this talented, hardworking, and fun-loving team.
The Role
This varied and exciting role leads the operational day to day delivery of many of the firm's employee benefits initiatives, with the successful candidate acting in a supporting capacity to the Head of Benefits and Reward. This individual will work closely with the Payroll Manager and Benefits and Reward Advisor, as well as a specialist HRIS team to manage the operational delivery of the employee benefits agenda, including the benefits housed within the flexible benefits platform, on-site services such as physio and massage and benefit initiatives and engagement pieces managed in-house.
The firm has reviewed and refreshed its employee benefits proposition in September 2022, with the introduction of a new underpinning flexible benefits technology platform. The successful candidate will relish working in an environment and at a time when the business is considering its ongoing development and investment in its benefits proposition.
The Candidate
- A natural candidate for this role will be someone who has a passion for employee benefits, who understands the impact and strategic value of a supportive and holistically designed employee benefits package in efforts to recruit and retain.
- In a role of this type, there is a need to multi-task and to be responsive to employee queries when these arise. The successful candidate will take a wide remit in their stride whilst remembering that a personal touch and attention to detail will always make a difference when ensuring a benefits service or product operates smoothly.
- The role would suit an applicant who enjoys presenting to employees, 1:1 but also in group settings, combining a focus on employee engagement with a sharp eye for the technical detail.
- The role would be attractive to someone with managerial experience, who is looking to build upon their expertise in the widest sense when taking on this role.
Key Responsibilities
With operational support from the Benefits and Reward Advisor, key responsibilities will include:
- Operational lead for the Benefits hub renewal project work and ongoing development

- Supporting the work which goes into wellbeing promotions such as Mental Health Awareness Week and other content throughout the year
- Reviewing servicing standards and meeting quarterly and/or twice yearly (as appropriate) with the various benefit provider organisations we have a relationship with, evaluating the extent to which these services are performing and confidently raising and resolving issues when these arise
- Accountability for monthly Benefits hub reporting, ensuring this is accurately and efficiently recorded and dealing with any issues which occur either internally or externally
- Supporting HR BPs in their understanding and interaction with our occupational health service and playing an active role in developing and supporting our sickness absence processes so we can better manage absence and costs
- Accountability for benefits invoicing, raising any issues with suppliers
- Accountability for a small number of international secondments we see annually; working with HR colleagues to ensure each international secondment, whether inbound or outbound is a success. Remit would include accountability for all pay and benefits related decisions taken and advice offered, liaising with external and internal tax advisors and benefits intermediaries, contributing to policy parameters, networking with global mobility peers in the sector and providing advice to individual secondees on aspects of their package

- Process-driven thinker, keen to suggest process changes and improvements where helpful
- Solution orientated, with a flexible and commercial mindset, wanting to get the very best from third parties relationships
- Confident communicator verbally, relishing presentation opportunities where these arise, confident in promoting how to make the most of the benefits package available at the firm
- Technically adept and inquisitive, with good retention of technical detail - able to translate complex technical issues for employees in a simple concise way
- Prior experience of the management of the benefits aspects of international secondments
