Job summary

The Disabled Workers Co-operative Ltd. is recruiting for a Benefits Assessor in Cannock to support the shared Benefits Service across Cannock Chase District and Stafford Borough Councils.

The role focuses on assessing Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Reduction claims, with duties including handling face-to-face, phone and email inquiries, and reviewing changes in circumstances to ensure timely processing. DBS checks apply, and the post is permanent with 37 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Experience of assessing Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Reduction claims.
• Ability to work accurately and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
• GCSEs in Mathematics and English at Grade C or above, or equivalent experience.
• Willingness to undertake training to gain knowledge of Council Tax and Housing Benefits.
• Baseline Personnel Security Standard Check (Baseline DBS) will be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer support face to face, over the phone and by email.
• Assess changes in circumstances identified during ongoing reviews.
• Consider Discretionary Housing Payments in accordance with departmental guidance.
